{Hair Detangler}: Make your own

So the girl has gorgeous hair....beautiful, long, perfect layers and oh so soft. But after a bath or after sleeping her hair typically looks like the image above. Combine that with a squirmy toddler and it is a recipe for disaster 

I have thought about buying detangler at the store many times but I usually forget and then remember come bath time that I was supposed to make that oh so important purchase.

So I decided to make my own and do you want to know the best part about it? It was FREE! Yeah!

I had a left over spray bottle from a hair heat spray that I use for myself that just had a drop left in the bottom. I washed it out added a tablespoon of conditioner that I had in the bathroom and then filled it with water. The only work required was shaking the bottle and I think we can all agree that that doesn't exactly qualify as work :)

Let me just say it is amazing! The girl now sits still while I brush her hair and is no longer screaming  "AWWWW" when the brush gets stuck on a knot.

I love it so much for her I might even try spraying it on my hair!

{Pom Pom Bib Necklace}: Real Life Mom Style

A few months back as while I was perusing the internet I came across an incredible blog....Little Miss Momma. Now I know what most of you are thinking...."You have only been following her for a few months!?!" Well what can I say. I'm behind the times.

Anyways I quickly fell in love with Little Miss Momma's blog and I am constantly fascinated by her amazing creations. When I saw her Anthropologie inspired Pom Pom Bib necklace I just knew I had to have one for myself!

It has taken me awhile to find a fabric that I wanted to use and I knew that I wanted to add a little twist to Ashley's (aka Little Miss Momma) design.

In true LMM style here's my little pretty....

(This is how I'm feeling today...I suppose that is what 3 cookies for breakfast will do to you.)

What do you think? I'm pretty much in love.

As for the how to...I used LMM Pom Pom tutorial and then I really combined a ton of different tutorials for making the rosette. Here is a great tutorial over at TT&J that helped inspire my rosette.

Cost...$5. Love it! I bought remnant fabric, a $2 chain and used a button and felt that I already had. Phew!

Now I must find somewhere to show off my new beauty.....




PS. In case you are wondering where all my hair went....I decided to donate it. It was kind of a spur of the moment lets chop all of my hair off kind of moment...but I love it and hope that someone else who needs it more then I did enjoys it now.

{Spring has Sprung}

It's official (well almost)....my favorite time of year is here. Spring makes me happy...makes me want to run outside...makes me want to waste the day away basking in the sun. Spring is my happy place.

To go with this beautiful time of year I thought it was time to update the seasonal decor. Since I do not have a mantel to change each season I use our front hall...Which as it turns out I actually love because it is the first place you see when you enter our home.

Here's the little spring in our home...

So simple yet so elegant.

I'm pretty much in love with anything burlap.

This was so simple and took only about 15 minutes to complete. And the even better part? The only thing I had to buy was some green ribbon which cost a grand total of $1.99.

I followed this tutorial by My House of L for creating the wreath...except of course I created a circle instead of a heart and I used this gorgeous "bloom" print by kiki creates for our frame.

For the candles I just switch out the ribbon from what I had used for our Valentine's decor and then I added a few flowers to the mini vase.

Viola! What do you think? It's so easy...you too should add a little spring to your home!

{Save the Dates} Gorgeous Idea!

So I love weddings! I love the planning, the ceremony and the celebrating. I love how warm and fuzzy I feel every time I attend a wedding. I love when I receive a beautiful envelope in the mail with an even more beautiful invitation inside.

So it is no wonder that I love reading, All the Lacy Details. Miss Cuddlefish (who also happens to  be my sweet cousin) has so many amazing ideas and totally has an eye for the details. So it is no surprise that her save the dates are phenomenal...but guess what....She even went as far as to make them herself! Amazing.

Every detail is just perfect all the way down to the digital calligraphy for the address'. And what I think is super amazing is that her save the dates are actually a book mark, which I know I am always in need of!

{Adorable Burp Cloths} Guest Tutorial

Have you ever bought a really super adorable burp cloth only to find out with the first use that really all it is good for is it's looks?

Coming from a Real Life Mom of a true refluxer (seriously...we called her pukes a lot) I promise you when I say the best thing to use is....cloth diapers! They are so absorbent, inexpensive and easy to pack in a diaper bag. Only problem? They are also REALLY ugly. Now I know it is important to be practical with a baby but when you are feeling exhausted, haven't returned back to your pre-pregnant size and are just dying to look somewhat cute you really could use some adorable baby accessories...

So what to do...hmmmmm. Well lucky for us a good friend of mine, Chantelle, put together this adorable tutorial for some amazing burp clothes....they will give you the function you need with a little bit of style!

Here's what you need:

• Cloth Diapers – pre-folded 6-ply   Gerber 6-Pack Premium 6-Ply Cloth Diaper - Prefold

• Choice of Ribbon – non-wired

• Pins

• Sewing machine

• Matching Thread

• Iron/Ironing board

Step 1

Cut two pieces of ribbon 2” longer then burp cloth (1” on each side)

Step 2

Fold about 1” on one side and iron flat

Step 3

Fold that piece (end) in half again and iron

Step 4

Start pinning to burp cloth starting at folded end.

Pin the sides down to the end of the burp cloth.

Repeat steps 2-3 on other end of ribbon – making

it even with the burp cloth. Pin the last end.

Repeat steps 2-4 for other piece of ribbon and pin

to other side of burp cloth

Step 5

Start sewing at one end of ribbon.

Continue sewing down ribbon by making

Turn with needle. (Have needle down

In fabric, lift up stopper and turn cloth

To desired area. Return stopper and

begin sewing down ribbon)

Continue this until you end up where you

Started! Then proceed to next ribbon.

Here's some finished cloths! Adorable right? I love them and you want to know the great thing about these cloth diapers? After they have served their purpose as burp clothes...they make great cleaning products for meal time with a toddler or cleaning counters etc.!

Tips:

• Cloth diapers have a thicker area in the middle with borders on either side. I use those borders as my guides for pinning the ribbon, but these are not always even so your ribbon may not always be perfectly straight.

• Make sure you get the pre-folded diapers – other types do not work! Gerber 6-Pack Premium 6-Ply Cloth Diaper - Prefold

• Any type of ribbon will do as long as it does not have wires.

• Most ribbon has a sewn border on each side. I use this as my guide when sewing. 

• Use bright thread on white background ribbon to bring out some color!

• Always practice on a spare piece of fabric first!

• When the cloths are washed they will shrink – but it adds a wave to the ribbon. I recommend washing after sewing for this reason.

Just think...you could make this for that special mommy-to-be for a baby shower or just because. She will totally appreciate it!

{Dream Catcher} Tutorial over at What Allie's Making now

So I am super excited...I was a featured blogger yesterday over at What Allie's Making Now!

Allie has a super cute blog that I have been following for awhile. She has amazing sew skills that I wish I could borrow for just a day! She makes the most adorable dresses for her sweet little girl and even makes some for herself! Totally jealous.

Today, I am going to introduce you to part of my homemade Christmas by showing  you how I created a Dream Catcher night lite for my daughters room. We currently use a lamp in her room that acts as a night lite but the lamp will soon be replaced leaving us with no night lite. So I decided to get a little creative since all the outlets in her room are covered by furniture. Alright, so here it goes:

Supplies:

• Outdoor lantern of your choice (don't worry about the color...it can be fixed!)
• Spray paint in coordinating color of room
• Pretty chandelier ornament (I found mine at Home Good's on clearance!)
• Eye Hook (from any home improvement store)
• Flameless candle (hello Dollar General!)
• Fishing string

This is the pretty little ornament I found! Gorgeous right?

• To start, remove the glass panels from lantern and spray paint lantern in your choice of color. I went with pink to go with the girls room.

• Next, drill hole (I enlisted the help of my husband for this although it is very easy to do) at top of lantern from the inside. Make sure drill hole is just large enough to fit hook.

(Make sure blogger/your computer randomly turns photos and leaves you helpless to turn said photo back to normal...this step is vital!)

• Screw hook into the hole. I also used a little hot glue around the hook....just for good measure

• Replace glass on lantern.

• I created a loop from the fishing string connected to the ornament. I used this since it is clear so that you wouldn't notice it. Hang ornament and light/place flameless candle at the bottom. Guess what?!? You are done! I told you...I only do simple!

I love how whimsical and girly it turned out! That's why I call it a Dream Catcher....it is beautiful enough to capture all her dreams in one little place.

And I love how the paint cracked a little giving it a more vintage look.
